A Few Highlights

Virginia Poppe

Travel is my greatest passion, and my happy place is anywhere the sun is rising or setting.

For me, everything begins and ends with beauty – the people, the light, the landscape, the moment, and the story unfolding within it.

Along the way, I capture more than photographs. I create video and time-lapse stories that hold onto people, places, and the feeling of being there.

I've always been curious and adventurous. Within reason.

I was lucky to travel from a young age. My parents insisted we explore our own country, New Zealand, before venturing into the wider world.

I still haven't reached everywhere on my list, but every journey teaches me something new, even when it's somewhere I've been before.

That's the magic of photography: you can return to an image years later, notice something you missed the first time, and feel something a little different.

I primarily shoot with a Canon R5 and RF lenses, and a GoPro whenever the story takes me underwater. And if I have to improvise, I do.

In Motion

There's nothing like standing in the pitch black in a new corner of the world, setting up a camera by feel and waiting for the light to arrive.

Or racing against the clock to catch the last of a sunset before it disappears.

I shoot video for corporate and business clients, but the time-lapses always surprise me. You never know what you'll get, whatever the weather promised.

And then there's astrophotography – still a work in progress, and a rare opportunity when you live in a city, where the stars are mostly hidden.
